April 7, 2006 - Friday - This week we installed the major appliances. Here we see the new gas range in place. The work site is becoming more civilized the closer the home gets to completion. With the addition of the work site microwave oven there is now hot tea any time you like! April 7, 2006 - Friday - The new Maytag dish washer fits into its alcove very nicely. April 7, 2006 - Friday - This week also saw the installation of the interior doors. In this picture you can see the doors installed and the shims sticking out at various places. Shims are used to adjust the door so it is square and plumb. Once the door is securely mounted in place, we break off the protruding ends of the shims and the remaining part will be hidden once the trim is installed. We use TeelGRT's ShimIt shims since they are made from 100% recycled wood material. We install 36 inch wide doors where ever possible. Not only does this help mobility if someone needs to use a wheel chair or a walker, its just plain nice when moving large items from room to room. These doors are the 2 Panel Roman model from Masonite in their Molded Panel Series. We specify solid core doors everywhere except the closets. The solid core doors keep out a bit more sound and they feel heavier when opening or closing giving a nice "well built" feel. We try to save time and effort anywhere we can so we order all doors pre-finished, which means they come painted and ready to install. April 7, 2006 - Friday - Track lighting was installed above the bar. A dimmer is used to allow for setting a mood! |
